Trend alert: true blue @ the Oscars

[caption id="attachment_2147" align="aligncenter" width="435" caption="Precious producer Oprah and star, Gabourey Sidibe, both wore blue on the big night."][/caption]

The Oscars were last night and from the Kodak Theatre to the after parties, one colour stood out on the red carpets -blue.It seems as if everyone was wearing blue, including many of the nights' biggest stars.

From 'Precious' star and best actress nominee Gabourey Sidibe wore a cobalt blue Marchesa to her co-star and Best Supporting Actress winner Mo'Nique in royal blue, it was all over.

Check out the rest of the blue parade after the cut.

Mo'Nique made sure everyone knew the significance of her Oscar night apparel - a tribute to Hattie McDaniel, who was the first black woman to win an Oscar - 70 years ago.

Mo'Nique, who has the rights to McDaniel's life story and hopes to play her in a movie, said in her backstage interview:
"The reason I have on this royal blue dress is that it's the color Hattie wore in 1940 when she won this Oscar, the reason I have this flower in my hair, it's the flower she wore when she won this Oscar. For Hattie, I feel you all over me, and it's about time that the world feels you all over them. Thank you so much baby, I love you."

And J-Hud, another black Oscar winner (and for Best Supporting Actress too!) wore royal blue to Elton John's post-Oscars party - and looked just about the best we have ever seen her. Her post-baby work-out plan is working.

Interestingly enough, another Precious alum, Mariah Carey, also wore blue on Sunday night, rocking a Valentino.

Oprah said it was all a happy coincidence, noting:
"That was just some sort of divine synchronicity, I guess from Hattie McDaniel. All the black women in blue, I don't know what happened."

And since, truly, the spirit of Hattie McDaniel was looming large last night, it felt only appropriate to end with a pic of the lady herself.
