Coming to us straight from Detroit, Lathun Grady has got to be one of the most slept on artists during the last decade. Although this young man was signed to Motown, I would say he's definitely still an underground artist. I mean, yeah he was signed to Motown, and he got his shine, but there wasn't enough light for anybody to really see anything.

I remember the first time I heard him sing....It was the summer of 2001. I was on TV hosting The Funkshop, my music video show and my video provider, sent me a video called Fortunate and asked me to add it in my rotation. It was the title track off Lathun's then new album "Fortunate". I listened to the song with it's Soothing melody....it had a kind of Latin Caribbean feel to it, with a dash of Hip Hop sprinkles. The lyrics were quite poetic and made me think of a time when I was in love and felt "Fortunate" because of it. You know there's no feeling in the world like one of being in love! I have to admit, I really liked the song, and the video was real cute too.....cute and simple. Okay so I was impressed enough to pay attention to this guy, but when I found out that he also wrote and produced MOST of the songs on his album I was wholly impressed. After that I was hooked, and I just knew for sure that this brother was going places. I added his video to The Funkshop Rotation and even though the label gave me his new CD, I still went out and bought one just to support the artist. Here's his song Fortunate. You'll probably remember it when you hear it. Listen to it, then I'll come back and tell you more about Lathun, with his pretty eyed self....Wooo!




LATHUN - "FORTUNATE"



Niiiice right? Okay so that's the song that caught my attention and reeled me in. After I took some time and really listened to his CD it was all over but the shout.

Now before I let you hear a few of his other songs let me just let you know that although in 2001 the Motown label was introducing Lathun as "new" on the scene, that wasn't exactly true. He came into the music business as a Producer, producing songs and working with talent like India Arie, Immature, Lil'Jon, Jermaine Dupri, Xscape and Raphael Saadiq. This is why it was so easy for him to write and produce most of the tracks on his album. This brother is a self-taught pianist, guitarist and drummer....AND just so you know he also sings most of his own background vocals. Not that all this is such a big deal in 2011, but it really IS a big deal. You'd be surprised at the number of singers who can't harmonize their own background vocals. Im just sayin'. LOL Anyway, this next song Im going to let you hear is my favorite song from Lathun. Personally I think it's one of the most beautiful I've hever heard him sing. This song personifies a man who loves his mate. My favorite verse in the song is the second verse and it goes a lil somethin' like this... "Heard some say, a dream is a wish that your heart makes and Im ready to fall asleep... and please don't wake me, till this day is a reality. Yes I've been in love before, but it never was what it is and never will be, and if faith works patients I keep waiting, and waiting on you... Long as I live I'll be lovin' you....we are, forever one flesh...." Awww shoot, here's the song, then you can feel me....Close your eyes and focus on his voice when he sings this one and even though you're eyes are closed you'll be able to actually see what Im saying.



LATHUN - "FOREVER ONE FLESH"

See what I mean tho??? I swear I would have loved to see him and Lyfe Jennings do a song together, that would have been tight.....unfortunately Lyfe has retired from the music industry, or so it was at last I heard. I loved me some Lyfe Jennings too.

This next song is a great summertime song. It's called BBQ...I like to call it Back Yard BBQ and you'll see why when you hear the song. This song is very Neo Soul, it's a very fun and happy song. It makes you reminisce about all the BBQ's you've attended especially the big family ones. Im not gonna talk all day about this one. It's pretty self explanatory in and of it's self, if you know what I mean. So here it is...

Now that you have a better idea as to who this artist is, can anybody tell me why he isn't recognized for his works? How come he didn't get the support he needed from radio? I have so many questions and not enough time to ask them...but it's always made me wonder WHY he isn't bigger in the industry....at least not over here in the states. I don't know how many of ya'll actually LIKE Ray J, he does have to be somewhat of an acquired taste, I understand. But every once in a while he hits the nail on the head and he ends up belting out some pretty good material. Now to be honest I don't think I've fell out over anything he's released since "Formal Invite" and THAT was my shizz! Weeeelllll...I think his new track "Bananas" is on the same level. Erykah Badu Is A DJ Now! [Video]

Over the years we've seen the many faces of Miss Erykah Badu. She is definitely an artist in her own rite...a rite that she not only worked HARD for but EARNED as well. She has my greatest respect as an artist because she always remained true to herself and she never conformed to what mainstream dictated. If they told her to wear a wig, she wore the biggest wig she could find, if they told her she had to lose the dreads, she went totally bald and rocked that, if they told her she had to show a little azz because sex sells, she made a video that showed her WHOLE ENTIRE azz! LOL


She simply made us love her for WHO she is and not who we thought she might have been. She's always allowed us to fly high and take the journey with her in first class where we each had a Window Seat so we could see everything and experience her evolution.....or maybe it was her revolution.

Well, she's a DJ now. That's right, Erykah Badu has officially joined the Core DJs conglomerate. She goes by the name of DJ Lowdown Lortetta Brown. Check out the video below and see what you think.

I like the song because it actually shows a different side of Ciara....a more laid back and relaxed side....no beat thumpin' foot stompin' music this time. This is 12 Year old Jawan Harris....well at least I heard he was only 12, but to be so young he's a pretty good singer although you can hear that he has a young sounding voice. I can't say that what he's doing on this track is really singing though. You'll see what Im saying when you listen to the song. Im really feeling the music on this track too. The song features Chris Brown which is a pretty nice touch to help carry the song. Raphael Saadiq is back with his newest offering to us titled "Good Man". His upcoming album called Stone Rolling is scheduled for a March release. This video is a must see...very deep. You might have to watch it a couple times to see what's REALLY going on with the story line in this piece but it's well worth the watch. This video could definitely get people talking, especially after you see what the leading lady does in here to her all I can say is WOW......REALLY??? 



This video definitely makes you appreciate the fact that there ARE still some good men out there. Good Men, keep on doin what you do and most importantly STAY good. Never let a no good woman harden your heart because believe it or not there are some good women out there too. ;-) Enjoy!

Yeeeessss, finally some new music from Ginuwine! He's been gone so long there's a possibility that you might have forgotten who he is....well if you did Im going to make you remember! You don't have to thank me, it's just what I DO!!! LOL Are you ready???............



First let's check out the new track featuring Tank. The man has STILL got it, his vocals are still as tight as they were back in the 90's and Tank only compliments the song....check it out.

As you can see Chris Brown has NOTHING on my man G! But that's not the only song he was noted for. Im taking you back to 99 now and Im really "So Anxious" for you to check out this next video because it was one of my favorites. Make sure you pay special attention to the dance break near the end of the song. Again I say, Chris Brown ain't got NOTHIN' on Ginuwine!


Here's another one from 1999, it features his wife the rapper Sole, I'll post something from her later just so you'll know who she is, and if you already know who she is Imma make you remember the song she was most known for. LOL Now if you think the dance break in the 'So Anxious' video was nice, wait till you see the dance break in THIS one. You'll be glued to the computer as you watch HIS rendition of Turbo's Classic Broom Dance outside in front of the store....this thing is called 'None Of Your Friends Business'....Check it out.


Ginuwine went on to do more videos to more songs but after a while ol' boy disappeared off the radar and we heard nothing from him....UNTIL 2009 when he came back with 'Last Chance', now I KNOW you remember THIS song because it didn't do to bad. I mean radio was KILLIN' this song and I have to admit....well watch the video and you'll see for yourself that he actually hasn't changed a bit!


Okay so earlier I said I'd post something from his wife Sole, she was a rapper in the 90's who did a quick stint, but after she and G got married she decided to give up rockin the stage for rockin cradles....she was a pretty good rapper to. Here's my favorite song from her and it's featuring my girl Kandi formerly of the group Xscape....oh and you know Kandi now from The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
